Soria celebrates the 22nd edition of the Black Truffle Fair

The Abejar Truffle Fair has become one of the most relevant and prestigious events in the world of Tuber Melanosporum, consolidating Soria as an international reference point.

During the weekend of February 15th and 16th, this small village of 300 inhabitants becomes a meeting point for thousands of visitors who want to taste and learn about the “Black Diamond” and meet companies, nurserymen, producers, and chefs.

This unique experience will feature a showcooking as a new addition, along with the traditional gastronomic space, truffle hunting with dogs, tastings, wine tastings, conferences, guided tours, and demonstrations of machinery and truffle farming tools that complete an attractive program.

The general public will be able to acquire all types of truffled products, attend workshops and technical-scientific seminars on truffle farming led by internationally renowned experts. There will also be a truffle tasting and a visit to a truffle farm.

Abejar hopes to surpass 8,000 visitors this year, having a positive economic and tourist impact on the entire region, with participants from Spain and other countries such as Italy, France, or Argentina. This event demonstrates how black truffles can be a perfect driver of rural development and a tourism de-seasonalizer in the area.

During the weekend, the contests for the largest truffle and, as a new addition this year, a prize for the smallest truffle – finding a small Tuber Melanosporum piece is a feat for truffle dogs – will be highlighted. There will also be a truffle hunting contest where the dogs that find truffles the fastest, the ones that find the most truffles in a set time, and the one that finds the largest truffle will be awarded.

During the inauguration ceremony, the 10th Golden Truffle award will be presented, granted since 2015 by the Abejar City Council to recognize individuals or entities for their contribution to the Soria Truffle Fair, their connection to the world of truffle farming, or their role in tourism development and promotion of the Abejar municipality.

One of the most important events will take place on Saturday afternoon: the 22nd National Gastronomic Contest of the Truffle. This event will feature a large number of chefs from all over Spain competing to create the best dish with Black Truffle.
